MATHCOUNT’S is a math competition targeted for 6-8th grade students. The team and the top individual students are invited to the Northern California State competition at Stanford in March every year. For more information please visit the website.

SJEC conducts the MathCounts Competition for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students for the San Joaquin Valley. Math Counts is a statewide event organized by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE).

This year's competition will be held on Saturday, February 1st, 2020,  at 9:00 AM, in the University of the Pacific’s Biological Sciences Building on  Kensington Way.  The event will start with testing in the morning and closing ceremonies at 2:30pm.

This year nine schools are expected with 90-120 Mathletes!  This will be another big year.  Schools participating are from all nearby counties including teams from San Joaquin, Calaveras, Mono, Stanislaus and Tuolumne.  SJEC needs  volunteers to assist,  If have volunteered in the past we hope you can volunteer again.  If you are interested in helping the MathCounts regional program please contact Evangelina Paoluccio at by email at  You can also contact Jasmine Noriega at  Hope to see you there!

At the closing ceremony trophies for the top team, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placing teams, top individual, 2nd, and 3rd placing students, Countdown round and Coach Recognition award will be presented.  The Countdown Round is a jeopardy style competition in front of the entire audience.

In addition to trophies, all top winners receive graphing calculators.  All students receive a MathCounts T shirt.
