In 1966, several engineers from differing disciplines got together to form a social group, to assist students wishing to become engineers, and to honor an engineer that made contributions to the Engineering community.  The group called themselves the San Joaquin Council of Engineers.  Later the name was changed to San Joaquin Engineers Council during incorporation as a non profit Corporation.  SJEC and its member organizations represent 1,000 engineers, design firms, and allied professionals.

SJEC's Scholarship Award Program is unique.  There is no other similar organization where engineers and allied professionals come together to support students wishing to pursue an engineering education.  Since 1979, SJEC has awarded over twp hundred and eighty dollars in scholarships to 248 deserving students.  In 2016, SJEC awarded 5 scholarships totaling $10,000.
